Best Waterproof Mattress Protectors for Bedwetting: Coverage & Care

By MattressProducts.com Editorial Team

Compare SureGuard and Coop Queen protectors plus a PeapodMats washable zone pad. Understand top versus side coverage, washing, quick changes and US returns.

Quick Verdict

  • For a Queen bed, start by comparing SureGuard's fitted cotton-terry protector: $47.97 when checked, top waterproof backing and a listed fit up to 20 inches deep.
  • Coop Ultra-Cool Queen is a different $89 option with a polyethylene/polyester surface, PU backing and a published 15-inch depth. Its name is not our cooling measurement.
  • A Large 3 × 5-foot PeapodMat can add a removable absorbent zone on top of the sheet. It does not cover an entire Queen mattress.
  • For repeated changes, plan coverage, a clean spare and the exact wash/dry routine. Fitted protectors, encasements and on-top pads have different jobs.

AI-generated editorial reference. This generic bedding is not a SureGuard, Coop or PeapodMats product photo or evidence of waterproof performance.

A useful bedwetting setup combines the right barrier with a manageable change routine. The fitted protector protects the mattress within its designed coverage. An absorbent on-top pad can take the first change, but only where it lies. Spare clean bedding and a realistic laundry plan are part of the purchase.

We checked current US SureGuard Queen Size Mattress Protector, Coop Ultra-Cool Waterproof Mattress Protector / Queen and PeapodMats Large 3 × 5-foot specifications and policies on October 31, 2026. We have not performed liquid-pour, pressure, overnight or repeated-wash tests. This guide covers bedding for ordinary beds; it does not provide infant sleep arrangements or treatment for bedwetting.

Fitted waterproof protectorA fitted-sheet-style layer over the mattressStretch sides are not automatically waterproof; check exactly where the barrier is
Zippered encasementAn enclosing cover around the mattressA zipper does not establish waterproofing on all six surfaces
Absorbent on-top padA removable zone on a sheet or other permitted surfaceRunoff or an accident outside the pad is outside its local coverage

This distinction is visible in current manufacturer descriptions. SureGuard's fitted Queen describes top protection. Protect-A-Bed's Essential encasement encloses the mattress but identifies a waterproof top layer. Do not substitute an all-side membrane claim because the latter has a zipper.

The general mattress-protector guide covers broader shopping routes. Here, the focus is recurring wet bedding: reachable coverage, correct pocket depth, changing the affected layers and preserving the membrane through cleaning.

A fitted protector's barrier coverage must be checked, a zipper does not prove waterproofing on all six sides, and an on-top pad protects only the covered zone.

Three options with different roles

Prices are direct-store USD snapshots before tax and any order-specific shipping or promotion. The first two are Queen fitted protectors; the third is a smaller supplementary pad, not a like-for-like Queen cover. They are not verified Amazon offers.

SureGuard fitted Queen: a straightforward top-barrier route

SureGuard's current Queen page describes a cotton-terry surface with TPU backing and a fitted skirt for mattresses up to 20 inches deep. That makes it a relevant starting point for someone wanting a washable fitted protector without selecting an enclosing zippered product.

The terry surface and barrier do different jobs. The surface can interact with moisture, while the backing is the stated barrier. Neither the word “cotton” nor a fitted skirt proves unlimited absorption or waterproof sidewalls. Ensure the corners stay fitted across the actual mattress and any permitted topper.

The source also offers a Smooth Cotton material choice. Preserve the actual chosen material when ordering rather than assuming a material toggle leaves every detail unchanged. We do not assign a noise, coolness or repeated-wash score to either version without testing it.

Coop Ultra-Cool Queen: a different fabric and depth

The selected Coop model has a polyethylene/polyester blend surface, PU waterproof backing and a polyester jersey-knit skirt. Its current size guide lists Queen at 60 × 80 × 15 inches. That is a different fit statement from SureGuard's up-to-20-inch range; do not choose it for a deeper complete mattress/topper stack merely because the width and length match.

The Queen's checked price was $89, rather than the $69 first-size headline. Its Ultra-Cool construction is also distinct from Ultra-Tech, Ultra Luxe and other Coop names appearing in older reviews. A spill test or rating for one of those products is not proof for this exact current model.

Coop advertises cooling performance, but we did not establish a measured overnight temperature improvement. The practical comparison here is the identified fabric, fit, care and purchase policy, not an invented cooling ranking.

PeapodMats Large: a changeable zone, not a full-bed replacement

PeapodMats instructs owners to place the mat flat on top of the sheet, with the grippy side underneath. That can make changing a local layer easier when the affected area remains within it. It is a different task from stripping an entire fitted protector off the mattress.

The Large is 36 × 60 inches. On a Queen, rotating it crossways can span the 60-inch width, but it covers only a 36-inch band along the 80-inch bed length. Movement, placement and uncovered areas still matter. The larger 58 × 60-inch version discussed in the FAQ is also not a complete 60 × 80-inch fitted cover.

We do not publish a guaranteed liquid capacity or a number of leakproof nights. Manufacturer absorbency descriptions are not our tests under body pressure, at the edge or after repeated washing. Choose coverage around the actual sleeping arrangement and follow the placement instructions rather than relying on a “Large” label alone.

Build a change routine you can maintain

For a selected fitted protector, the usual arrangement is the mattress, protector and fitted sheet, following the model's instructions. If using the selected PeapodMat, it is an additional on-top zone layer, not another fitted cover hidden beneath the mattress. Check that the complete setup stays flat and comfortable.

Keep a clean, dry replacement of the layer you expect to change most often. A spare fitted protector is useful if the barrier itself needs laundering; a spare zone pad can be useful if only the removable pad is affected. That does not mean every household needs multiple complete waterproof stacks, which can add bulk and change feel.

When bedding is wet, check the surrounding sheet, corners, sides and the mattress before assuming only the center pad needs attention. Keep damp pieces separate from dry replacements. If the barrier is torn, a seam is damaged or the fit has shifted, address that specific problem rather than adding another unknown layer over it.

PeapodMatsLaunder with like colors; follow mat label and dry fullySoftener, dryer sheets, dryer balls or bleach, which its FAQ advises against

Do not reinstall damp bedding because the upper surface feels dry while another layer remains wet. Check the whole item and follow the supplied label. A machine-washable description does not mean any temperature or additive preserves the waterproof backing.

The size of the wash load matters too. PeapodMats specifically notes that its Extra Large size can take longer to dry or create machine-balance issues; its return policy does not classify those expected size-related characteristics as defects. That is a reason to choose the size and laundry plan together, not a claim that the smaller Large has an established drying time.

Keep a clean spare, remove affected layers and inspect edges, follow the exact care label, then refit bedding only when fully dry.

Compare returns before washing for the first time

SureGuard's direct policy requires eligible change-of-mind returns within 30 days of receipt, unused, with original tags and packaging. Return freight is normally the buyer's responsibility for preference or ordering mistakes. Its instruction to wash before use does not turn the unused-item policy into a wash-and-try trial; defect remedies are a separate process.

Coop's return page describes returns of most items within 100 days, using its portal and a prepaid label. It excludes Amazon purchases from that standard route and gives separate instructions for Amazon, Target and Walmart orders. Keep the actual purchase channel with the product comparison.

PeapodMats' policy uses 30 days from purchase, requires authorization and places return shipping on the purchaser. Original shipping is not refunded, and the page explains expected wear/laundry and Extra Large size exclusions. It should not be described as unlimited replacement after any washing-related change.

Our starting rule is SureGuard fitted Queen for its stated top barrier and depth range, Coop Ultra-Cool for its different fabric/fit and direct purchase route, and a PeapodMat when a removable local layer solves the change problem. The research uses primary specifications, care and policies. Owner discussions informed laundry and edge-coverage questions; they do not establish failure rates. No scene or recommendation implies that a protector treats the cause of bedwetting or guarantees every mattress remains dry.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best mattress protector setup for frequent bedwetting?

For an ordinary bed, start with the correct-size waterproof fitted protector and suitable care instructions. A removable absorbent pad can make a local change easier, but protects only its covered area. Have a clean spare ready and check fit, mattress edges and laundering rather than assuming a single waterproof label guarantees the complete setup.

Are all six sides of a zippered encasement waterproof?

Not automatically. A zippered enclosure describes coverage, while the waterproof layer may be on the top only or on additional surfaces. Read the exact construction. The compared fitted SureGuard describes top protection; a different SureGuard six-sided encasement or another brand's top-barrier encasement is not the same product.

Does a Large PeapodMat replace a Queen mattress protector?

No. The Large is 3 by 5 feet, or 36 by 60 inches. A Queen mattress in this comparison is 60 by 80 inches. Placed crossways, the pad covers a 36-inch band along the bed's length; the remaining area is outside the pad. It is a removable zone layer, not complete Queen coverage.

Can I wash every waterproof protector on a hot cycle?

No. SureGuard's care page specifies cool water, 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit, and low or no-heat drying or line drying. The selected Coop Ultra-Cool says cold gentle wash and low tumble dry, without bleach or fabric softener. Follow the supplied model label instead of another brand's hot-wash instructions.

Can I return a SureGuard protector after washing it?

Its current direct-store change-of-mind policy requires unused original condition, tags and packaging within 30 days of receipt. Its care directions separately say to wash before use. Do not interpret that preparation step as a washable sleep trial; defect and warranty remedies are separate.

Does Coop's 100-day return policy apply to Amazon orders?

The current direct return page describes most-item returns within 100 days and a prepaid label, but excludes Amazon purchases from that standard route. Amazon, Target and Walmart orders have separate purchase-channel handling. Confirm the actual seller and order process.

Will these products cure bedwetting or guarantee no leak?

No treatment claim is made. This guide compares bedding and change routines, not causes of bedwetting. We have not tested liquid capacity, pressure, long-duration exposure or repeated laundering, and do not promise that every setup, edge or worn membrane will prevent all leakage.
