The useful current pairing: The One and Original II
An older Casper Original versus Tuft & Needle Original article can describe two different beds from the ones currently offered. Here we compare Casper The One and the current 12-inch T&N Original, called Original II in T&N's help documentation. Casper describes The One as medium-firm and responsive. T&N describes Original II as firm and explicitly says it is slightly firmer than the previous Original.
That difference matters if you are replacing an old mattress you liked. Matching the logo and the word Original does not reproduce its construction or feel. A shopper seeking a familiar softer bed could buy the wrong direction by treating a new generation as an unchanged replacement.

Firm versus medium-firm: where the labels help
The descriptions narrow a trial or showroom comparison. They do not prove that everybody will experience a fixed numerical difference. A lighter side sleeper could find both too resistant at the shoulder. Someone who dislikes deep immersion may instead want to investigate how the waist and pelvis settle on each.
A firm surface and adequate support are also different questions. Ask whether the whole mattress supports your usual position while permitting enough cushioning. We have not measured pressure maps or alignment on these models. A mattress label cannot diagnose the cause of pain or establish a treatment.
What changed on the T&N side?
The maker's help page identifies Original II, specifies 12 inches and describes its move toward a firmer feel. An old test of a thinner Original or a Legacy product is historical context, not a current measurement. The same applies to internal layers: an older cutaway should not be transferred to the new bed because its brand name is unchanged.
For a different T&N feel, investigate the current Mint range as a separate comparison. Casper likewise offers Cloud One as another foam route and Dream as a hybrid. Changing to them may make sense, but it changes the pair. Our Tuft & Needle review and Casper review provide wider background; use the current specifications above for this exact pairing.
Check the name in your cart
An old review can be useful context while describing a different purchase. Use this check to separate the current foam pairing from an older Original, a Costco model or a hybrid. It changes the model route rather than awarding an invented firmness or performance score.

Does the review match the mattress in your cart?
Choose the name you have encountered. The answer changes when you switch generation, retailer or support construction.
The intended current comparison
Compare these two current foam models. The feel words are each manufacturer’s descriptions, not positions on a calibrated shared scale. Compare your preferred cushioning and ease of turning separately.
Keep the selected size, seller and generation visible in both quotes.
Model check, not a performance score. Sources checked October 31, 2026: Casper The One, T&N’s current Original II guidance and Casper’s Costco models.
Movement, edges and heat require separate decisions
Both starting models use foam support. Neither supplies the same spring system as Dream or Original Hybrid. That is a construction distinction, not a measured motion-isolation win. For two sleepers, evaluate turning, usable perimeter space and standing from the side you actually use. A mattress can feel acceptable lying near the edge and different while sitting on it.
T&N markets graphite, gel and Adaptive foam for temperature and response; Casper describes breathable, responsive foams. Those features do not establish an all-night cooling winner between these exact beds. Keep the same sheets and protector when recording trial observations, so several setup changes do not hide what the mattress contributes.
The one-inch profile difference affects finished bed height and bedding. It cannot establish a longer service life. Follow the support requirements for each model and use our bed-frame compatibility check to organize the instructions if needed.
Compare return restrictions before changing brands
Casper's direct trial gives mattress customers 100 nights with a 30-night adjustment period. T&N's trial documentation describes a 100-night program and limits a household to one return or exchange per 12 months. That matters if your plan is to order multiple beds and repeatedly return them.
Do not assign either direct-store headline to a marketplace purchase without evidence. Save the actual seller, model, size and return conditions. A different generation or a shorter seller window can change an apparent bargain. Compare delivered totals, any necessary base and the remedy for a comfort mismatch rather than claiming one brand is permanently cheaper.

Our decision and research limits
Start with Original II if a firm, responsive foam direction is your stated preference and you understand the generation change. Start with The One if Casper's medium-firm direction is closer. If a firm bed already creates pressure discomfort, compare another comfort option rather than choosing either solely for a discount. Leesa vs Casper adds a medium-described foam route.
We checked the linked manufacturer product and policy pages on October 31, 2026. We do not transfer scores from old Original reviews to these current models, and did not measure pressure, cooling, motion, edge deflection or wear. Record the exact model, size, support and seller terms in our comparison worksheet. No brand-wide comfort or lifespan guarantee follows from this comparison.
